Tips For Getting A Better Haircut

Pete's New Your Barber and Styling ShopGetting a bad men’s haircut can be so frustrating and embarrassing. At times, it is the barber or stylist’s fault. However, sometimes it is the client’s fault. If a man has unrealistic expectations, doesn’t communicate his preferences clearly or is unfriendly, all of these things can result in the guy getting a bad haircut. That’s why I’ve collected some “insider tips” for you to help you better communicate with your barber so that you can get the fantastic haircut you are looking for.

1. Make An Appointment

Frequently you will discover that barbershops and salons that ask their clients to make appointments often provide higher levels of customer service.

Usually, salons specializing in walk-in traffic make their money from delivering services to large amounts of customers. There is a much greater chance that they will rush through giving you a haircut so they can get through as many clients as possible.

However, if you make an appointment, your barber or stylist is much less likely to rush and should be able to provide you with plenty of time and the close attention that you deserve.

It’s very important for you to make it to your appointment on time. If you are running late, be sure to call the salon or barbershop to let them know you are either running late or won’t be able to make it.

2. Listen Carefully To Your Stylist

Barbers and stylists are trained and paid to know what hair styles will look good on you and make you look your very best. So if your stylist suggests a certain haircut for you, why not give it a try?

Us guys often like staying inside of our comfort zone. We fall into that lazy habit of always getting the same haircut each and every time we go to the barber’s.

However, getting a different cut and changing things up a bit can be a good thing. If you end up not liking it, you can just let your hair grow back.

3. Be Realistic

Let’s be real, unless you happen to be Brad Pitt, it’s going to be hard for your stylist or barber to make you look just like him. Using a male celebrity as an example to give your barber or stylist a good idea of the kind of cut you are looking for is perfectly fine.

However, when it comes to your expectations you need to be realistic. As an example, if your hair is fine and thinning, you’re probably not going to be able to pull off the new Colin Farrel cut.

Bringing a picture from a magazine to show your stylist can also be helpful to give him or her an idea of what kind of cut you are looking for.

Most of the time, if you aren’t being realistic about the type of cut you want, a good barber or stylist will let you know that and will suggest other options that will work well with your hair and looks.

4. Take A Photo With You

It will often feel like your stylist is talking to you in a totally different language.

However, if you can take a photo in to show your stylist or barber, your preferences will be much more clear. That’s why it’s a good idea to bring a photo so that your barber or stylist will know exactly what you are looking for.

Many times men are quite reluctant to take a photo in with them. However, there is no reason for you to feel that way. Your stylist will always appreciate your effort and wants to know what you are looking for.

Another thing you can do is look through the men’s photo galleries that the salon has on hand to find the cut you want.

5. Leave A Good Tip

Not many stylists will admit to this, but we almost always are more more inclined to spend extra time on a client that tips well than one who doesn’t.
Clients who leave generous tips will frequently be treated better when booking an appointment and be given more attention during their haircuts.

6. Find A Stylist Or Barber Who Cuts Your Style Really Well

Men very rarely compliment each other on their haircuts. In fact they hardly even discuss their hair at all.

However, just keep in mind that the quickest way to find a really good barber of stylist, especially one who does a really good job on your style of haircut, is to ask around.

So, if you happen to run across a guy who has the type of haircut you’re looking for, just ask him who cuts his hair. Most men will consider that to be a compliment and be very happy to refer you to their stylist or barber.

7. Show Up Hat Free And Clean

When you go to Pete’s New Your Barber and Styling Shop, don’t wear a hat and always have clean hair.

That’s especially true if you are wanting to have a clipper cut done. Most barbers want hair to be clean and free of product whenever they are doing clipper work.

When you wear a hat, it leaves a line on your hair. It makes it harder for your Largo barber to correctly blend your hair.

So when you go in for your appointment, don’t ever wear a hat and make sure your hair is clean and doesn’t have any products in it. That will make it easier for your barber to assess your hair and know how it falls naturally.

Of course, to have great looking hair does involve more than good communication with your barber or stylist. However, if you just follow the advice in the tips I have provided you, you’ll end up being very happy!
